We are seeking a compassionate, committed, and encouraging individual to join our Workforce Team as a Career Coach.

 

Our Workforce Development program provides career coaching to youth ages 16-24, both in and out of school, to assist them in educational attainment and reaching their post secondary goals. We accomplish this through academic assistance, GED preparation, career exploration, assistance with entry into post-secondary education, and job placement opportunities.

 

What You Will Do:

As a Career Coach for our Workforce Development program, you will provide career coaching and case management to youth ages 16-24, both in and out of school, to assist them in educational attainment and reaching their post secondary goals. You will accomplish this by providing and coordinating academic assistance, GED preparation, career exploration, assistance with entry into post-secondary education, and job placement opportunities.

Serving the Heart of Texas region, you will recruit In-School and Out-of-School Youth by partnering with school faculty, counselors, and administrators to identify youth that would benefit from our program.

Using the Youth Program Design, you will collaboratively develop an Individual Service Plan (ISP) with each assigned youth participant that includes schedule of services, benchmarks of progress, outcomes to be achieved, and the final goal of full-time employment or enrollment in post-secondary skill training leading to employment.

Career Coaches have a variety of strategies and services at their disposal to assist youth clients and achieve goals outlined in the ISP.

 

The schedule of services include:

• Academic assistance/tutoring to ensure high school graduation
• GED for Out of School Youth, as necessary
• Career exploration
• Evaluation of options for career and technical training while in high school
• Development of employment and career goals
• Skill development and work experience opportunities
• Job placement and employment activities
• Assistance with entry into post-secondary education
• Occupational skill attainment for Out of School Youth

 

The delivery of services could be through any of the following methods:

• At the school they attend before or after-school or times within the school day that the principal will permit youth to meet with the career coach
• At the Workforce Center during special events, training or instruction
• At designated sites for specific youth activities, such as a community college campus, life skills event, or field trip
• At their home, as appropriate
• By phone to set up appointments
• At the CISHOT central office or CISHOT Learning & Training Center (LTC)

 

Duties and Responsibilities

• Responsible for overseeing the daily operation of Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act youth services and intensive case management of WIOA youth customers
• Responsible for recruiting the designated caseload of primarily Out of School Youth that are requiring assistance with employment and/or their High School Equivalency (HSE/GED), college entry, or entrance into vocational training programs
• Responsible for assessing students to determine eligibility and coordinating appropriate services
• Complete accurate data entry and documentation throughout the year
• Provides or coordinates appropriate services and activities such as tutoring, mentoring, group services, and academic support services
• Provide high-quality employment and education services to assigned youth
• Ensures complete and accurate data entry and documentation throughout the year
• Attends meetings, trainings, and other required functions of both CIS-HOT and funder
• Maintain a positive image by understanding and demonstrating the CIS mission, goals and initiatives within the school and community

 

What We Look for:

Required Qualifications/Skills:

• Familiarity with processing software programs, such as Microsoft Office and case management software, such as TWIST
• Excellent writing and communications skills
• Effective documentation skills to maintain thorough and accurate case records/counselor notes
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to plan and implement social service programs
• Effective intervention, advocacy, facilitation, and negotiation skills
• Strong interpersonal skills with a focus in relationship-building and community outreach/involvement
• Ability to complete and pass a Criminal Background Check
• Ability to transport oneself to and from work site and for other identified work requirements
• Work outside standard working hours as needed and provide proof of current liability insurance coverage

 

Preferred Qualifications/Experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Human Services or related field or equivalent experience
• At least one (1) year of experience in case management services (can also include internship)
• Experience working with youth from diverse backgrounds including youth who are homeless, involved in the criminal justice system, are pregnant/parenting, and youth with disabilities
• Familiarity and existing relationships within the local community and/or our service area communities

About Us

Communities In Schools of the Heart of Texas (CISHOT) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that was founded in 1989 as the McLennan County Youth Collaboration to address the effects of poverty on children and respond to the increasing dropout problem. Based in Waco, Texas, CISHOT's service area extends across McLennan, Hill, Bosque, Falls, Freestone, and Limestone Counties.

CISHOT places social services professionals in partner school districts on school campuses to provide academic, behavioral, and social interventions and supports to pre-K-12 students identified as at-risk. CIS then leverages relationships with school administration, local businesses, social service agencies, health care professionals, and parent and volunteer organizations in order to surround students with support, addressing the needs of the whole child. At-risk criteria are based Texas Education Agency standards and is used uniformly across the 8 districts and 26 schools that are served by CISHOT.

Nationally, CIS provides services in more than 2,900 schools in 26 states and the District of Columbia, serving 1.7 million young people and their families every year.
